About Gerry

Experience built over five decades in personal financial services

Gerry Owens has spent more than 50 years building his education, knowledge and experience in the financial services industry. That experience has shaped a strong focus on securing the best achievable outcome for borrowers and their families.

Practical experience, applied calmly

Gerry was a Branch Manager with ICS Building Society and a Tied Branch Agent of EBS Building Society. Today, he operates Negotiators as a Central Bank-authorised Debt Management Firm and works directly with borrowers and families throughout Ireland.

His approach is to listen to what has happened, understand the immediate pressure and identify who owns or services the debt. He helps gather the relevant information, review income, household costs and repayments, and work towards a practical next step.

His experience has shaped a strong focus on securing the best achievable outcome for each borrower's circumstances, without promising a particular result. Where specialist input is needed, Gerry helps prepare the information and involves the appropriate legal, insolvency or other professional.

Gerry Owens, founder of Negotiators

A Practitioner-led, Plain-English Approach

Gerry's role is to help borrowers understand their position and the practical steps that may be available to them.

Understand the file first

Acting in the interests of the borrower, Negotiators may use appropriate modern technology and structured document-review methods to examine records held by the lender or owner of the debt where those records are available or provided for review.

The purpose is to understand the history of the borrowing and, where relevant, the process followed by the original lender when the loan was initiated, before Gerry forms a view on the appropriate next step.

Clear and accurate information

Negotiators provides borrowers with clear, accurate, honest and non-misleading information about their financial position, based on the information available.

Plain-English explanation

Gerry explains the borrower's financial position and any recommendations in plain English. The aim is to help borrowers understand their position, the options available, why a particular recommendation may be made, and how the proposed course is intended to protect or advance the interests of the borrower and their family.
